Recovery Residence Levels
Level 4/Type C (Clinical) residences are state-licensed treatment providers who blend the “Medical Model” and” Social Model” to create a relatively more supportive environment for the person in recovery.
Level 3/Type S (Supervised) residences offer a paid staff supportive environment that offers life skills training and peer-based recovery supports.
Level 2/Type M (Monitored) residences have unpaid staff who monitor resident participation in individual and community recovery activities.
Level 1/Type P (Peer-run) residences are democratically run homes where the residents self-govern by a set of “house rules” and share monthly expenses.
MARR PRE-ASSESSMENT REVIEW

The purpose of the MARR Pre-assessment review is to evaluate a residence for Recovery Residence readiness according to NARR Standards. During the review, the inspector will offer advice, suggestions, and recommendations, while sharing best practices and addressing any concerns regarding the location's needs.
(Please note that this review is optional and not a requirement.)
The MARR Pre-assessment review is for single-family home reviews only, and it can be a valuable service for:
- Current Certified RR operators who are opening a new location.
- Pending and future operators who are interested in utilizing a specific location as a possible recovery residence.
Below are the key benefits of a MARR Pre-assessment review:
- Identifying Hidden Issues: Uncover potential problems that might otherwise be overlooked.
- Industry Education: Gain insights into current best practices utilized by certified operators throughout the state.
- Cost-Saving Strategies: Receive tips on saving money for items including, but not limited to, flooring, window treatments, paint, security, furnishings, and other necessary repairs or purchases.
- Space Assessment: Benefit from a formal evaluation of bedroom square footage and an assessment of the home’s overall living space and requirements.
- Findings Report: You will receive the Pre-assessment checklist tool below (under Documents Available for Convenience) detailing all findings from the pre-assessment review.

Please note that this review does not guarantee a contract with any funding source, nor is it tied to the MARR certification process. Furthermore, a successful review does not guarantee that the operator or the specific address will meet local zoning, structural, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC inspection requirements.
Our goal is to help operators maintain homes that meet the NARR Standards and to assist in creating safe, structured, and homelike environments that are conducive to recovery.
